After six days with Jane, we headed to Mt. Shasta to stay with Mike. His backyard is beautiful. One of the best additions to his yard is this swing!
Lots of playing on the piano and singing in the microphone.
First thing we did when we got there…ride bikes of course!
Swimmin’ in Lake Siskyou
I rode while the boys scrambled up that mountain, called Black Butte. Grandpa usually rides his bike to the trail, runs up and down that thing, rides some more on the trails, then rides down to the lake. Quite the triathlon everyday for him… and no wonder he’s in the shape he is at this point in his life. It’s just awesome.
One of the days, Dan and I did the Sisson-Callahan ride we did three years ago. It’s such an awesome decent we had to do it again but this time…we added on hike-a-biking up to the top of Mt. Eddy.
Just so pretty on the climb up.
After biking and hiking through the very damp and wet Deadfall meadows, then it getting really steep we got to Upper Deadfall Lake. It’s so gorgeous and you can see Mt. Eddy right there waiting for us 😉
We stopped here last time we did it and just rode the downhill, which was epic but Dan really wanted to get up to the top. I knew it was going to be a climb, but I didn’t realize how long it would actually take me. And, I got some wicked blisters to boot! I just decided to give into the burning and just get up there since I knew that as soon as I started to pedal downhill it wouldn’t hurt as bad.
Getting close. SO many switchbacks.
Blisters…110% worth it! Seriously, the views were just amazing.
Look the other way and you see Deadfall lakes, where we came up.
His “stoke meter” as at an all time high. I’m SO glad we did it!
After a dip in the lake and a yummy home cooked dinner, we headed to some music at the park, just up the street from Mike’s house. We were so happy that Ellen was there working and able to be with us almost the entire time.
I mean, it’s just so pretty.
Castle Lake. It was pretty cloudy this afternoon, but they all still swam. Admittedly, I’m a wimp when it comes to swimming in these lake waters 😉
It was chilly!
Dan found this gem to jump off of.
One last ride before we had to leave.
Three generations. I’m SO, SO thankful for the father figure and example Mike is in not only my life but Sam’s, especially now that he’s getting a bit older and will really remember these times with him. Thank you for having us. Can’t wait for you to come visit!
